RICHARD JAMES
Perhaps it's just another fact of modern life for which we have Richard James to thank or blame: fine-art photography is the latest "It" thing.
By choosing a fine-art photographic print by Richard James, all eyes are now turning to cyberspace as a venue for contemporary photography.
With the speed of a flashing bulb, the viewing public now has access, from the comfort of their own home, to make a choice from among the
creative possibilities offered.
The launch of rjphotoeditions.com is a reflection of the strong interest in the creative possibilities of new technologies that drives Richard James.
Refining an innovative approach that combines digital photography and printmaking, James began making prints utilizing a method known as Giclée
(pronounced zhee-clay). The resulting series of fine-art photographic prints has led critics to dub James as a "hot digital
photographic artist whose work does not look digital."
"The depth of color and richness of texture in a Giclée print are far superior to anything that can be achieved through the traditional
methods in photographic printing or lithographic art," says James, who personally shoots and hand prints each one of the editions offered. Giclée,
derived from the French that means "a
spray or spurt of liquid" utilizes special archival inks and papers to achieve the resulting high-resolution images.
James' desire to incorporate the past techniques into a style firmly rooted in the present speaks to his artistic sense as well.
His first editions include a classic car collection, with a nostalgic point of view; a New York City collection, from James' native eye;
an off-the-beaten track floral collection, with a twist; and a vintage musical collection.
Sit back and enjoy a whole new world through the eyes of Richard James.
