Dad was in that chair every day. He'd be there as the sun came up, the smell of coffee in the air. He'd be there when the sun went down and the air was crisp and smelled of apples. He'd sit quietly, next to that empty chair and gaze down the driveway, as if waiting for Jimmy to come walking up it. Jimmy was far from home, but home was never far from him. Dad was there. Every day.
